Couple of things — the great stone monument with sarira is the Geumgang-dan or Diamond Altar.

And when you say "This shrine is dedicated to a sanshin, or mountain spirit, although there was no information about who this was." — that painting is of Jajang-yulsa, fournder of the temple in the 640s. The second photo you name as Sanshin is indeed one — Spirit of Yeongchuk-san, Tongdo-sa's host.

Loved the shady walk up the valley to get there. And when I visited (back in 2001) there was a superb restaurant serving temple food outside the main entrance.

It will be one of the places we will be going back to on our next trip to Korea.
