It's a Maori tiki – often carved from jade and worn by the indigenous Maori people of New Zealand.

A lot look veeerrry similar to last year… I know I had some very numb hands after battleing the cold to go to last year's and I'm debating whether it's worth it. But… it is so close to my house it would be a shame not to check it out… ah.. decisions..

The photo that you said "seems like a copy of Korea's earlier lanterns" actually has lanterns showing some of Shanghai's famous landmarks (the first two characters at the bottom read Shang-hai).

From L-R, the buildings are: The Oriental Pearl TV Tower, The JinMao Tower, and the tea house at the Yu Yuan (Yu Garden) market which has a koi pond surrounding it.
